Stand by me cast. It is always a pleasurable surprise when you come across a gem of a movie – that too accidentally. This is one of it.
It is a story about the memories of a writer (Richard Dreyfuss) of his childhood – Gordie (Wil Wheaton) along with three other friends – Chris (River Phoenix) Teddy (Corey Feldman) and Vern (Jerry O'Connell) decide to go in search of a missing boy – with a suspicion that he might be murdered in the woods. Without informing their parents, they venture into this journey along the railway track walking till the river. The couple of days of their travel present the best part of growing up awkwardness of adolescent age.
This is such a beautiful poignant movie, that it lives in your heart much after the movie is over. All the four boys have acted beautifully. There are very few movies that have justified Stephen Kings' novel adaptation, and these one should be surely in the foremost list.
Director Rob Reiner, has done a wonderful job in extracting the best out of his crew. The musical score by Jack Nitzche is very good and reminiscence of early 60's.
It is sad that one of the four boys – River Phoenix – died young due to drug abuse; something similar to what was remained at the end of the movie when the narrator and voice over by the writer – Richard Dreyfuss talks about the whereabouts of these boys, when grown up.
One of the best coming-to-age movies I have seen since long. Highly recommended.
